Position Overview

Data Lens Consulting is seeking an experienced Matillion ETL Developer / Data Engineer to support the migration of an existing Matillion ETL framework to a Python-based solution using Prefect and Snowflake. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Matillion ETL, AWS, strong Snowflake/SQL development skills, and cloud data warehousing.

The candidate will collaborate with data engineers to analyze, document, and migrate existing Matillion ETL pipelines into a scalable, maintainable Python-based framework while preserving existing data transformation logic and business rules.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing Matillion orchestration and transformation jobs to understand processing logic, dependencies, and data flows.
• Migrate Matillion ETL pipelines to a Python-based framework orchestrated through Prefect.
• Extract, adapt, and optimize existing SQL transformations for Snowflake.
• Work with AWS S3 data sources, file ingestion processes, and cloud storage integrations.
• Implement error handling, logging, auditing, and restart/recovery mechanisms.
• Validate migrated pipelines to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency with existing processes.
• Troubleshoot ETL issues and optimize pipeline performance.
• Collaborate with data engineers to document migration requirements, dependencies, and technical specifications.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Matillion ETL, including orchestration and transformation jobs.
• Strong Snowflake and advanced SQL development skills.
• Experience with Python-based data engineering and ETL development.
• Experience with AWS services, particularly S3.
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT architectures, data warehousing, and data integration patterns.
• Experience troubleshooting complex ETL pipelines and resolving data quality issues.
• Ability to analyze and reverse-engineer existing ETL implementations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Prefect or similar Python-based orchestration frameworks.
• Prior experience migrating Matillion jobs to another ETL framework.
• Familiarity with Snowflake stored procedures, tasks, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and automated deployment processes.
• Experience developing reusable, metadata-driven ETL components.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on data engineer with strong Matillion and Snowflake expertise who can quickly understand existing ETL processes and translate them into efficient Python-based solutions. The candidate should be comfortable working collaboratively in a consulting environment, independently troubleshooting complex data pipelines, and delivering well-documented, production-ready solutions.
