AWS Administrator (part-time)

Location for this role: Remote

Data Lens is seeking a hands-on AWS administrator for part-time support work. This is a contract position best suited for a consultant who can serve in a part-time support role capacity.

Responsibilities:

  1. AWS Infrastructure Management:
    • Deploy, configure, and manage AWS cloud resources, including but not limited to EC2 instances, S3 storage, RDS databases, and VPCs.
    • EC2 instance administration is a must (backup/recovery, security, optimization, scheduling)
    • Implement best practices for resource provisioning, scaling, and monitoring.
  2. Security and Compliance:
    • Design and implement robust security measures for AWS environments, including access controls, encryption, and network security.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  3. Monitoring and Performance Optimization:
    • Set up and maintain monitoring tools to track the performance of AWS resources.
    • Identify and implement optimizations to enhance system performance and reliability.
  4. Backup and Disaster Recovery:
    • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for AWS resources.
    • Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity.
  5. Cost Management:
    • Monitor and manage AWS costs, optimizing resource usage to ensure cost-effectiveness.
    • Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and budget planning.
  6. Automation:
    • Implement automation scripts and tools to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
    • Work with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  7. Collaboration and Documentation:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide AWS solutions.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of AWS configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  8. Incident Response and Troubleshooting:
    • Respond to incidents and outages promptly, troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner.
    • Collaborate with support teams and vendors to resolve complex technical problems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an AWS Administrator or in a similar role.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) are highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of AWS services and architectures.
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with Matillion ETL and/or Snowflake is a plus
